An update to this story is that today, Cllr. Jo Bentley, at the planning hearing at Wealden DC for this project, made a strong case that the application should be deferred due to the strength of the concerns regarding the design of the proposed building. Such was the feeling in the room on Tuesday, held at the HTC Fleur de Lys offices, that this argument was taken fully into consideration by the panel and a decision to defer was reached. Hailsham Town Council will now have an instrumental role in getting the design of the proposed building to be more aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the surroundings. This is a major victory for HTC and in particular the Conservative Group, considering this application prior to Tuesday evenings’ meeting was heading for acceptance! Our group will now take a leading role in ensuring the project meets with approval of the Town as a whole.
